When renting in the UK
Non UK driving licence holders:The Withdrawal Agreement has now been formally ratified and the UK will leave the EU on 31 January 2020. We will enter a ‘transition period’ until 31 December 2020 during which arrangements will remain as they are now. This would mean an International Driving Permit (IDP) and a motor insurance green card would not be required during 2020. The gov.uk pages will be reviewed and updated to reflect the current situation.
Arrangements for January 2021 onwards will be subject to EU-UK future relationship negotiations. Gov.uk will be updated with information as it becomes available
You must inform us at least 48 hours before you are due to pick up your rental vehicle if you have been issued with a temporary licence by the authorities in your current country of residence.
So that we can advise you if you are able to drive under our insurance cover well in advance of your rental start date we need you to provide us with a copy of your Temporary Driving Licence, your original UK Driving Licence (if you haven't' surrendered it to your new country's authorities) plus your Passport. These documents will be reviewed together and will help us decide if our insurance will cover you.
